Pod partners with Troy Hawke as survey finds an unexpected compliment is the UK’s top everyday rewarding moment
Our new research reveals three in four Brits want more rewards for simple everyday tasks, like how Pod Rewards pays cash for plugging in an EV at home.
Flattery will get you everywhere, it seems, withmore than four-fifths (84%)of Brits saying an unexpected compliment or praise can turn their whole day around, according to new research we recently commissioned.
The study of 2,000 adults found that over three-quarters of Brits (79%) said the best rewards are small, unexpected, and effortless, while four in five (80%) said little, regular boosts make a bigger difference to their day than big one-off wins.
In fact, three-quarters (75%) of Brits would welcome more rewards for the everyday tasks they already do with little thanks or recognition: from cleaning the house (40%), cooking the evening meal (30%), to taking out the bins (21%) and keeping the car fueled and ready for the next day (14%).
Furthermore, seven in ten (69%) say routine actions would feel better if they came with a reward, while 74% say the best rewards are the ones they get for things they already do.
For Pod customers, that is where EV charging is different. If they smart charge their EV at home, they can earn up to £100 a year in cash through Pod Rewards, turning an everyday routine into one that pays them back.
A compliment from a stranger topped the list of Britain’s most rewarding everyday mood boosters (44%), followed by finally finishing something you’ve been putting off (40%) and receiving an unexpected freebie or discount (39%), showing why Pod Rewards is giving customers something back for a simple everyday routine - smart charging overnight.

To bring together the two things Brits value, unexpected recognition and rewards for everyday choices, Pod sent in the “King of Compliments” himself, internet personality Troy Hawke.
Bringing his trademark high-street compliments to people’s doorsteps, Troy surprised Pod customers with his signature praise, celebrating them for making the switch to EV charging at home and discovering how easy, affordable and rewarding an everyday routine can be with Pod.
Other everyday moments to make the list included getting a message from someone you've been meaning to catch up with (30%), a great song coming on at just the right moment (28%), being praised for making the right choice (24%), and someone letting you go ahead of them in a queue (19%).
The research also explored the rewards EV drivers experience after switching, with four in five (81%) finding home charging easier than expected and almost all (98%) saying it quickly became part of their routine. Nine in ten (92%) also said smart overnight charging makes EV ownership feel simpler, while 75% rarely thought about charging once their home charger was installed.
For Pod customers, switching to EV home charging is easier than many expect. Simply set a charge target and smart charging takes care of the rest, usually overnight, so drivers can wake up ready to go while earning up to £100 a year through Pod Rewards, depending on how much they smart charge.
Internet personality Troy Hawke said:
“It was a genuine joy surprising Pod customers on a beautiful day in the Southeast of England and reminding them what a wonderful and practical decision they made. It’s lovely celebrating people for any reason, why not for switching to home EV charging!”
Melanie Lane, CEO of Pod, said:
“We want the shift to electric living to feel simple; giving people confidence that they have made a choice that feels easy, more affordable and rewarding.
“Pod Rewards is not just about the cash customers earn for smart charging; it's also about the feeling that comes from trusting their decision and seeing that choice pay off every day. Bringing Troy to customers' doorsteps was our way of celebrating drivers who have made the switch and found that a simple everyday routine can be unexpectedly rewarding.”
