Pod partners with Uber to deliver discounted home EV charging for drivers
Pod Drive subscription overcomes barrier of high upfront costs and provides ongoing cash rewards for smart charging, supporting drivers as Uber Electric expands to new UK cities.
Pod has partnered with Uber to launch an exclusive home charging offer for drivers, making it easier and more affordable to switch to EVs. Pod Drive, an industry-first home EV charging subscription, is being offered with no upfront cost for ride-hailing drivers and a discounted monthly payment.
Through Pod Drive, drivers on Uber can access a home EV charger for just £25 per month over three years, with no set-up or install costs. The subscription includes a Which?-accredited installation of a Pod Point home EV charger, 24/7 support, lifetime warranty and up to £170 per year in cash rewards through smart charging — helping drivers with the running costs of an EV while charging conveniently at home.
Debbie Foley, Chief Revenue Officer at Pod, said: "Our partnership with Uber shows how innovators in mobility can accelerate electric driving together. In removing upfront costs for drivers to get a home charger, and helping them cover charging costs through cash rewards, we’re making it easier to use an EV for everyday work. It also helps more people choose Uber Electric, bringing electric living into the mainstream and enabling cleaner transport across UK cities.”
The partnership comes as Uber expands Uber Electric — its fully electric vehicle option priced the same as UberX — to eight new cities: Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Cambridge, Belfast and Merseyside. Riders in these locations can now choose cleaner, quieter electric journeys at the tap of a button, while Uber also continues investing in charging infrastructure and driver support to accelerate electrification nationwide.
Andrew Brem, General Manager, UK at Uber, said: "We’re delighted to bring Uber Electric to eight new cities across the UK and offer even more people an emissions-free trip at the same price as an UberX. It’s clear that electric is better for riders, drivers and cities but access to charging is the biggest barrier for drivers thinking about making the switch to electric. Uber is helping to unlock more charging infrastructure in the UK, making charging easier and bringing down costs for drivers.
