With over 1.2m EVs now on UK roads and more drivers making the transition than ever, the new ‘Pod Point Plug & Power’ bundle offers drivers the ability to purchase a Pod Point Solo 3S charger for an initial payment of £4991 (compared to £1,099).

Making the bundle the first-of-its-kind, the remaining cost for the charger is spread over two years and integrated into the tariff, giving drivers a more cost-effective way to get a convenient and reliable home charger and run their EV.

The tariff, priced at £2,139 a year for the average EV driver2 using dual fuel at home, gives customers cheap overnight rates, with five hours of off-peak electricity between 12 – 5am to power both their home and car, priced at 8.49p per kWh.

For an average motorist, charging with the Pod Point Plug & Power will save drivers £538 a year compared to petrol. And compared with using the public charging network, EV drivers charging with the tariff would save £4603.

Pod Point, a leading provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, has partnered with EDF, Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity, to offer this unique bundle, which is suitable for all EVs and is backed by 100% zero carbon electricity4.

Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF said: “We’re always looking for ways to make sustainable choices more convenient and affordable, so this bundle is a great option for drivers to be able to make the switch to electric driving, with lower upfront costs. Joining forces with Pod Point is the perfect solution for our customers, and builds on the outstanding service levels they have come to expect, with both businesses rated ‘Excellent’ on Trustpilot."

Melanie Lane, CEO at Pod Point said: “We’re delighted to partner with EDF on this industry-first bundle, giving drivers an all-in-one solution to charge their EVs at home, with the benefit of low-cost, overnight electricity. We’ve seen dedicated EV tariffs become a key consideration for drivers, as well as the need for a home charger that gives them great value, and so we integrated both elements and launched the Plug & Power bundle, making EV driving even easier and more affordable.”

Customers can sign up via EDF’s website, and once signed up, EDF will pass details onto Pod Point to buy the Solo 3S EV charger from £499. The Solo 3S comes with a 5-year warranty and standard installation is included. The Pod Point app also allows users manage their home charging conveniently from their phone.

To be eligible for Pod Point Plug & Power, customers are required to have a smart meter and be opted into half hourly meter readings5.

1 Exit fees apply if you cancel the tariff within two years. See our terms and conditions and EDF's tariff terms and condition for more details.

2Based on the consumption of an average EV dual fuel driver (2,700kWh at peak rates, 1,976 kWh at off-peak rates and typical gas consumption). Price includes remaining balance of Pod Point Solo 3S charge point. Prices correct as of 4 October 2024..

3Based on 7000 miles driven. Charging with Pod Point Plug & Power would cost £660, £1,198 for petrol and £1,120 to charge on the public charging network. Assumed EV efficiency of 3.5miles per kWh and assumes 80% charge at home at 8.49p/kWh (the national average overnight rate for Pod Point Plug and Power Oct26), remainder at public station costing 56p/kWh. Average petrol car efficiency of 36 mpg from https://www.cinch.co.uk/guides/ask-the-experts/what-is-a-good-mpg and petrol price of 135.53p/litre taken from https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/fuel-watch/ on 25 September 2024.

4More details about how EDF are Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity can be found here. EDF's fixed home energy tariffs are backed yearly by 100% zero carbon nuclear electricity as standard.. The UK fuel mix disclosure information published by the government (DESNZ) recognises electricity generated from wind, solar and nuclear produces zero carbon dioxide emissions at the point of generation. The zero-carbon electricity purchased is supplied to the National Grid. Customers receive electricity via the National Grid, not directly from zero-carbon generators.
