Many EV charging providers will require you to have dedicated off-street parking so that your home charger can be installed in a safe and accessible location.

You’ll need to check that your preferred EV charger installation location is close enough to where you actually park your electric vehicle. This is because there are different electric car charging cable lengths (we recommend a compromise between ease of use and ease of storage). You may also need to consider where the charging socket is located on your EV.

Another consideration is the distance between your home’s power supply and the desired location of the home charger, as providers may have different limits for their home EV charger installations.

Only a qualified and competent electrician who has passed the relevant qualifications can install an EV charger. They should hold a qualification for chargepoint installation (2921) and be registered with the Competent Person Scheme. You’ll find that many EV charger providers offer installation as part of the purchase. If you prefer to organise your EV charger installation yourself, you can find OZEV-approved EV charger installers via the OZEV website.

If you’re looking to use the OZEV chargepoint grant scheme to reduce the cost of your EV charger installation in rented accommodation or a flat you own, you must use one of the installers authorised as part of the scheme.

You won’t need permission to install an EV charger if you live in a house you own and have private parking. If you rent your home or own a flat, you’ll have to seek permission from your landlord or property manager before arranging an installation.

While you have to seek out permission, there’s some good news. Renters and flat owners may be eligible for the OZEV grant, which can lower the cost of getting an EV charger by up to £350. Find out more about the grant scheme and see the full list of eligibility criteria.

Yes. Our Pod Point Solo 3S chargers come with solar integration, meaning you can charge your vehicle with solar power or a mixture of solar and grid energy. Simply activate solar charging mode and set your preferences.

Solar mode - allows you to charge purely using excess solar energy - ideal for very sunny days where lot of solar energy is generated.

Solar and grid mode - allows you to use excess solar energy, topped up with a small amount of energy from the National Grid - ideal for cloudier days when you have excess solar energy you want to use up but you need some energy from the grid (EVs require a minimum of 1.4kW to begin charging).

Pod Point chargers don't integrate with wider home smart tech such as smart speakers or applicances but you can control your Pod Point remotely using our app. Simply download the Pod Point app and connect your charger to your home Wi-Fi and you'll be able to set smart charging schedules, securely lock your charger, pick your preferred charging mode, and much more.

Yes, Pod Point chargers are compatible with every energy supplier and all single and two rate energy tariffs. Our chargers are compatible with Octopus tariffs such as 'Octopus Go' but not smart tariff such as 'Intelligent octopus Go' and 'Intelligent Drive Pack'.

If you don't have a driveway, you can still have an EV by making use of our extensive UK network of public and workplace chargers. There are also options available with our partners such as Kerbocharge who make owning an EV charger with on-street parking easier than ever.

We recommend always having your charger connected to Wi-Fi, as this allows you to make the most of the smart features included with your Pod Point. These benefits include managing your charging schedule using the Pod Point app, using 'Off mode' in the app to remotely lock your charger when you're not using it, and making it easy to keep your charger software up-to-date with over-the-air updates.

If your Wi-Fi does drop out though, don’t worry. Your EV will continue to charge, it just means that you will lose access to smart features for this period.

Pod Drive

To be eligible for Pod Drive you need to have a stable Wi-Fi connection. This is so we can ensure your car is always charged at the cheapest times, and to send any remote firmware updates to keep your charger up to date.

A standard installation can be completed in as little as 2 hours. For non-standard installation, our team will advise you on what to expect.
